How To Get The Best Blowout At Home

Blowouts always look fabulous— if they’re done correctly. While your stylist may be a blowout master, your attempts to recreate this look at home never seem to look as good, no matter what you do, you can’t seem to get the hang of it. So how do you get that salon blowout at home? Garnish has foolproof system for you that’s sure to make your lovely tresses look amazing!

1.) Towel Dry:
The first step to getting a better blowout is to gently towel dry your hair by squeezing out the excess water. Don’t ruff up your hair with your towel.

2.) Use Protection:
Always make sure to apply a heat protectant before blow-drying your hair. Using a heat protectant will prevent your hair from damage such as split ends and breakage. Garnish recommends Davine’s Melu Heat Protectant Shield, ideal for protecting all types of hair from stress caused by heated styling tools.

3.) Add “Damp Hair” Styling Products:
Depending on your hair type and what your stylist has recommended, you will want to apply any styling products that require application to “damp” or “towel dried” hair now. One of our favorite newer products for all hair types that reduces blow dry time while adding shine to your hair is Davines’ Your Hair Assistant BlowDry Primer

4.) Use The Right Brush:
Using the right brush is is probably one of the most important and overlooked aspects to obtaining a gorgeous blowout. Ask your stylist which type of brush is ideal for your hair. A round brush smooths and styles your hair as you dry it and allows for control. They are ideal for creating curls and adding volume. A paddle brush is great for smoothing hair, detangling, cutting down on frizz, and straightening your ends. They are also ideal for ladies with extensions. Garnish recommends the Hafexi Collective’s ZiZu brushes for their high quality and excellent results.

5.) Use A Quality Hairdryer:
Using a dryer that is going to evenly dry your hair with enough heat as well as reduce damage is crucial! We love the ZiZi Joon hairdryer by Hafexi Collective. This turbo tormalionic dryer is perfect for styling all hair types. It evenly distributes heat and is one of the most powerful dryers on the market that. This dryer will tame even the most stubborn hair for a smoothed effect while keeping your hair healthy and shiny.

6.) The Technique:
If you have bangs, that’s the first place to start. Dry those first. Then, divide combed hair into sections and secure with clips. Make sure you are pointing the nozzle downward towards the hair shaft. By doing this, you will seal the cuticle and help reduce frizz. The last step for each section is to pull hair taut with the brush and blast it with cool air from your dryer.

7.) Smooth It Out:
Once you’re done drying your hair, apply a smoothing gloss to tame any flyways that remain. Sometimes, your baby hairs just won’t cooperate, and a smoothing product is a perfect way to put to tame those tiny little beasts. We like O&M’s Project Sukuri because it delivers a smooth, glossy, and featherlike softness to the hair.

8.) Top It Off:
Now that you have a salon perfect blow-dry you will want to hold your work of art in its place with a finishing hair spray like Kevin Murphy’s Session.Spray. It provides a firm, weightless lasting hold with natural fragrance oils and a UV shield for color protection. It also works to combat high humidity to keep the frizz at bay.
