Custom Crown for Hair Loss: 4 Things to Know First

A woman with great extensions wears a gold crown over a custom crown for hair lossIf you’re experiencing hair loss, chances are you’ve spent a lot of time trying to find the right solution. You may have tried hair growth serums, supplements, new styles, or maybe even a short-term topper—only to feel like nothing quite restores that sense of self. Maybe you’ve already decided a custom crown for hair loss is your next step … maybe you’re still looking for a sign. Either way, we’re here for you.

At Garnish, our custom crown process is designed for women who are looking for a long-term, natural-looking solution to hair thinning or loss. But here’s the truth: it’s not a quick fix.

A true transformation takes time, and it’s not just about the hair. It’s about trust, preparation, and designing something that feels like you. Here are four important things to know before you start your custom crown journey with us.

1. It All Starts With a Deep-Dive Consultation (and a Quote)

Your first step is always a Garnish crown consultation—an in-depth, private appointment where we talk through your hair history, your goals, and your lifestyle. We’ll assess your natural hair and scalp health, talk through your daily routine, and start building your crown vision with you.

The consult is where we start crafting a solution that will restore your confidence, not just your hair. It’s more than just a “how much will this cost?” meeting … but, yeah, we’ll talk about that, too.

After your consult, you’ll receive a starting quote range based on your unique needs. Custom crowns are, by nature, highly personalized, so your pricing will reflect the exact hair type, color blend, density, length, and base structure that works for you.

🖤 Garnish Glow-Up: Your consultation is the foundation of everything. Come with your questions, your hopes, your anxieties, and your dream hair inspiration. We’ve got you.

2. Yes, There’s a Deposit—and a Detailed Design Session

Once you’re ready to move forward, we require a non-refundable deposit to begin the custom process. This covers the initial work of sourcing hair, preparing your design specs, and setting the wheels in motion for your custom crown.

Garnish founder Candice Mot works on a mold on a guest's scalpNext comes your measurement + design appointment. This is where the magic (and precision) really happens. During this visit, your stylist will take exact head measurements and create a custom mold of your head to ensure the base of your crown fits like a glove. We’ll also walk through A Garnish stylist cuts a mold to size for a custom crown clienthair swatches, density preferences, part placement, and all the finer details that will make your crown feel seamless and natural.

At this point, we can provide a more precise price based on the finalized design.

🖤 Garnish Glow-Up: This is the exciting part! You’re not buying a “wig”; you’re collaborating with our experts to design a crown that’s built just for you, from the inside out.

3. The Wait Is Real … But It’s Worth It

Custom crowns aren’t something we pull off a shelf. Every piece is built to match you. That means we often need to source your hair, which can take time—especially if we’re looking for a specific length, texture, or tone blend. In some cases, the process from design to delivery can take 8-24 weeks.

We know; waiting is hard. Especially when you’re eager for that “mirror moment.” But this step is what separates a mass-produced solution from a crafted experience. The hair we use is ethically sourced, high-quality, and hand-selected to match your vision. It’s worth the wait.

🖤 Garnish Glow-Up: While your crown is being created, we’ll keep you in the loop and prep you for the next steps. Let the anticipation build, babe; this is the time to get excited.

4. Installation Day Is Just the Beginning

Once your crown arrives at the studio, we’ll invite you in for a preview + scheduling appointment to start getting to know your crown in person. We’ll check color, texture, fit, and finalize all the details of the big transformation.

Garnish founder Candice Mot puts the finishing touches on a guest's custom crown at install dayTHEN … at long last … we’ll book your installation day.

Your install includes:

  • A professional placement and secure blending of your crown

  • Optional additional services (e.g., color blending, shaping … yes, we might even let you try bangs)

  • Product recommendations to keep your fit fresh until we see you again

This isn’t a plug-and-play process. We want you to leave not just looking incredible but feeling confident in your daily maintenance routine. To help with that part, a couple of weeks after your install, we’ll have you back in for a check-in + styling lesson appointment so we can make sure you + your crown = love match.

🖤 Garnish Glow-Up: We’re not just handing you new hair; we’re handing you back your confidence, one detail at a time.

The Crown Isn’t the End—It’s a New Beginning

Choosing to move forward with a custom crown is a big deal. It means you’ve decided to invest in yourself, your confidence, and your identity in a way that honors your journey with hair loss.

At Garnish, we know that hair isn’t “just hair.” For many of us, it’s a part of how we move through the world. That’s why our crown process is built on empathy, artistry, and trust. When our Garnish guests look in the mirror, we want them to see more than great hair; we want them to see the great women they are.
