You may or may not know that in addition to being obsessed with transforming womens’ lives through the art of hair extensions, the Garnish team is also pretty obsessed with growth and goal setting.

It’s one of Candice’s passions and she’s cultivated an environment focused around growth. For the last three years Candice has chosen a word of the year to focus her next year around. At the end of each year as she reflects on the year to come, there’s always something that shows up. Once it appears, she recognizes that that’s where she should be focusing her energy.

Candice has found that if she puts all of her energy into making sure that every step that she takes is focused around this particular word for the year, that at the end of the year it really does show up that her life wrapped around it. Because this practice has been so significant for her individually, this year she decided to introduce the concept to the Garnish team. She asked the entire staff to dedicate the next year to a particular word.

Here’s what they each chose:

Candice – Manifest.

Niko – Fearless.

Amank – Disciplined.

Reece – Prepared.

Susan – Centered.

Sahar – Balanced.

Stephanie – Limitless.

Jennifer – Aligned.

If you’re noticing a couple of new names on the list, allow us to introduce you to our two newest team members. Stephanie is our lovely new part-time guest service team member who takes care of the front desk all day on Saturdays. Jennifer is our amazing helping hand. She manages our inventory, puts hair away, and pretty much just makes sure everything is flowing smoothly.

For everyone reading this, we encourage you to pick a word to represent your 2020.

Don’t put too much pressure on it or stress yourself out about it. Just choose a word that means something to you that you want to focus on this year. Manifestation doesn’t work under pressure, so you don’t want it to feel forceful. It’s just a simple reminder as you’re walking through your life that you should be focused on “X” because that’s what you want the outcome of the next year to be. If you want to talk more about your word (or ours!) we would love to chat during your next visit.

We love sharing about our goal setting practices and spreading our manifestation vibes!

We love to kick the year off with something special for both new friends and current friends.

This year we are launching the new year with “A Gift from Garnish: #ConfidenceOnTheGo.” If you saw our most recent YouTube video, we featured our Lead Stylist, Niko Jones, along with Jennifer Freeman, who started out as a guest, and has now become a part of our studio as our extra set of hands, so-to-speak. We wanted to give you some insight into these two women’s lives because of the impact wearing hair extensions has had on them and their day to day.

While yes, hair extensions give you length or volume, and transforms your hair—they also do so much more. Wearing extensions does something to the inside as well, bringing more confidence, and just making everything feel a little different. We wanted to shine some light on that aspect of hair extensions. In the video, both Niko and Jennifer share their stories.

We particularly wanted to feature Jennifer because as she transitioned from a guest into one of our team members we’ve gotten to know her on a deeper level and really see what hair extensions have done for her. As a single mom of four boys who manages a coffeeshop, Jennifer has pretty much always put herself last.

Choosing to come in and carve out time just for her was huge! Candice said, “She walks in the door with all this confidence and cute styles, and it’s clear she really just got lit up by adding hair extensions to her fine hair.”

A Free Extension Consultation, Our Gift to You!

We decided to offer free consultation vouchers to our current guests to inspire you to invite your friends to come in and experience Garnish. If you’re a current guest, we have tickets up at our front desk that can be personalized just for you. The voucher is good for a complimentary consultation that you can give out to someone you think would really benefit from wearing hair extensions.

The person in your life who really needs that extra dose of confidence on the go. We want to make it easy for you to give that gift to them. In exchange for bringing your friends into the Garnish family, we are offering $100 off your next full set of hair extensions for each friend who ends up actually getting hair extensions following their complimentary consultation.

This promotion will be going on through the end of February to really kick off 2020 right!

As always, we truly appreciate the support and love that we get from all of our guests. We couldn’t follow our dreams without you! Thank you all for everything that made up our 2019 and we can’t wait for more amazing hair and #ConfidenceOnTheGo in 2020!

If you’ve been into the studio, or even perused our website, you know that we have an application process in order to become an extension guest at Garnish. It might seem crazy to have to apply to a hair salon to have hair extensions put in, but there’s actually a pretty thorough reasoning behind our process. We wanted to break this down for you so you could have a full picture view of why this is so important inside of our industry. Our application not only garners information from the applicant, but we’ve set it up to provide a ton of important preliminary information as well.

One of the most important aspects of having a great hair extension experience is understanding the investment. With both the financial investment and time investment being significant, we want to make sure that everyone is knowledgable about what it takes to get and maintain extensions.

We also want to ensure that they are a great candidate for the type of extensions that we offer, and that we are able to meet all of their expectations. It’s important to us that we’re all on the same page, and that we are a good fit for one another. As an extension guest, you will be spending a lot of time in our studio. We are in the business of building relationships and changing lives through the art of hair, and we want the entire process to go smoothly all around.

You don’t want to devote an hour of time to come in for a consultation if we can tell right away that you’re not a good candidate or we are not a good fit for what you’re looking to have done.

What makes you a good candidate for hair extensions?

A lot of women have unfortunately experienced hair loss brought on by various things—hormones, stress, vitamin/nutrient deficiencies, etc. Before we put extensions in we want to make sure the hair is in good condition. If you’re currently shedding hair, one of the worst things you can do is add semi-permanent extensions to your hair.

It’s important to us that before you invest both money and time, we understand if your hair loss has been diagnosed yet and if it’s still occuring so we can properly guide you to the best hair solution for you and your hair. We also ask a variety of other questions that help us determine if you’re a good candidate for hair extensions. We need to know if you’ve experienced any hair trauma, a bad hair color or haircut, or anything else that might pose a problem to you having a seamless blend with hair extensions.

Other important questions are if you’ve worn extensions before and what feedback you can provide from your past experience. We also ask about medication because some medications can contribute to hair loss. And finally, one of the most significant questions we ask is about your lifestyle. There’s a lot of activities that people engage in such as rock climbing, hot yoga, etc. that may not be the best fit for some of the methods that we offer. Learning about you helps us really sift through and make a well-informed decision on what will be the best fit for you as our professional recommendation.

It’s also absolutely vital to us that every guest is well-informed about the investment for every aspect of hair extensions. We want to make sure that you know everything that goes along with wearing extensions. The application helps us learn what’s important to you for your hair extensions experience, and allows us to manage expectations on both sides. Learning these details is something we can’t know just from looking at a photo. If we see something that is a red flag, we will reach out and let you know before you consider coming into the studio because we want you to be well-informed.

The final aspect of our application process is the photos. We ask you to upload a few pictures of yourself currently and your biggest inspirations. Together, these show us how much of a hair extension journey we are going to be on and how much hair we are going to have to apply. We can gain so much insight based on the photos you provide such as is your end goal realistic, or is it at least something we can grow into?

It also helps us determine if your hair needs will fit into something that we offer here in the studio.

From start to finish the application only takes about 10-15 minutes to fill out, and consultations are typically set up within the next week or so. We’ve cultivated this thorough process to ensure you have a great experience. We have such a high satisfaction rate inside of our studio and we believe it’s because of this application helping us and our clients sift through information and really set up the process to go smoothly.

If you’ve been considering hair extensions and have been wondering if you should fill out an application, we’d love to hear from you. Just click here to apply and we’ll be in touch soon!

Amazing things are happening here at Garnish and we wanted to bring you up to speed on some exciting news! Beginning in just a few short months, Garnish Extension Studio will become the East Coast training location for Natural Beaded Rows Extensions and their partner company, Big Money Stylist. As 2020 kicks off, Garnish will begin hosting a variety of classes each month that will bring in students from all over the country to train with Candice and the Garnish team.

The studio will be hosting private training events that will consist of the studio being “closed” for three days as we train stylists on all things NBR Extensions. These will take place from Sunday through Tuesday, so that it minimally affects your normal scheduling with us.

We will also be hosting stylists twice a month for hands-on shadowing opportunities. These are extremely limited and only available to students enrolled in the BMS program. Even though we are still about four months out, a waitlist has already been created for these opportunities, and NBR is already in the process of promoting the national classes.

Garnish is honored to be one of only three salons in the country, and the only salon on the East Coast, to be chosen as an educational hub. Along with Carlos of Trade Secrets Salon and Amanda K Styling, both in Texas, Candice and Garnish were selected as the top NBR Specialists to teach the method and certify stylists through NBR. This opportunity will allow Candice and our stylist team to continue doing what they love and transforming lives through the art of hair extensions, while serving their fellow stylists as well.

Candice has always been a big believer in the idea that teaching something makes you even better at the skill you’re teaching. When you’re sharing your knowledge, you have to put a lot of thought and energy into how you’re teaching and training. We are so excited for this opportunity to spotlight Candice’s extensive experience and training with the method along with the quality of work produced by all of our stylists.

Our studio just continues to grow in our specialty, and we believe it’s because it’s all that we do every single day! We have poured our time, energy, and hearts into becoming the best extension specialists in the area, and our hard work has paid off. We can’t wait to become THE East Coast Education Hub for Natural Beaded Rows Extensions!

Spoiler Alert!

You may remember that last month we announced our upcoming YouTube Channel. It is now fully underway and our first videos will be launching in the next few weeks, so we wanted to take a moment to give you a more in-depth look at what content you can expect to see coming from our channel. There will be two separate series of videos debuting on our channel that address two completely different aspects of our business.
The first will be a series called, “Garnish Your Growth.”

These will be 10-15 minute long videos featuring a conversation between Candice and Niko encompassing a variety of topics related to both personal and business growth. Within these videos you can expect honesty, humor, and vulnerability as they speak with transparency about personal challenges along with difficulties that Garnish has encountered along our journey to becoming an extension-exclusive salon. These videos will be accessible to everyone, meaning you don’t need to be in the beauty industry to find them completely relatable.

The second series will be a tutorial-based collection. As a visual learner herself, Candice wanted to create a visual way to communicate how to make life with extensions a little smoother. We know that there are tons of hair tutorials on YouTube, which is why we are doing things a little differently. All of our videos will be catered directly to our extension guests and women who wear hair extensions. They will showcase what can show up for you when wearing hair extensions, particularly hand tied hair extensions. Hair extensions require everything from styling to shampooing to wearing up to be done a little differently than normal, so we wanted to be able to communicate these differences in a visual, easy to learn from way.

Our tutorials will be debuting twice per month, and we really want to ensure that we are creating content that best services you, our guests. We would love to hear from you about what topics you would like to see, and what you could use some help with when it comes to wearing hair extensions. As we create videos that address different topics, we hope to make the learning curve of hair extensions, particularly more intricate ones such as Crown Extensions, a little less steep. We truly hope for our YouTube channel to become an interactive space for you to communicate with us regarding how we can best serve you and your extensions experience.

In the meantime, make sure you are following us on social media and subscribed to our newsletter to ensure you get the most up-to-date information regarding the launch of our channel and the very first videos! If you haven’t already checked it out, we also invite you to watch our studio update where Candice and Niko dive deep into the behind-the-scenes of our transition over the past year. We look forward to hearing from you with all of your ideas, and creating amazing customized content just for you!

Tis the season for Rebirth & Renewal

As you probably know, last year Garnish began a huge transition, moving into completely specializing in our niche of hair extensions. With this transition came a rebrand of sorts. Many aspects remained the same—our commitment to the unparalleled Garnish Experience, our passion for education, and our creation of gorgeous hair transformations. Our new specialty, however, meant that some of our content had become a little bit outdated.

We have been working tirelessly since the end of last year to revamp our social media and website in order to better reflect our business and better serve you, our guests. It is with those goals in mind that we completely recreated the Garnish website.

The combined creative efforts of our Graphic Designer, Jenell, of Neon Gumbo Studio and our Content Creator, Kassy, of Quirks Creative, our new site brings you a ton of new content, transparency for our process, and plenty of gorgeous hair visuals. We have fully outlined our extensions process, added FAQs, and provided information for each of our extension methods. All of this brings you more knowledge and a better understanding of hair extensions and our studio.

We invite you to check out our new site and really explore.

In addition to the extension information, we have updated team bios, a look at the Garnish Academy, and a brand new gallery gracing the front page. As always we thank you for supporting us through this transition and being a part of the Garnish family.

Introducing Quirks Creative

If you’ve been into the studio you probably know our Studio Manager, Kassy. What you may not know is that she has been growing her side hustle into a business for the last two years all while managing the salon full-time. Beginning in the new year Kassy’s role at Garnish will be shifting as her business becomes her full-time career. I wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about her journey with us here at Garnish before introducing her new role.

Quirks Creative

You all know I’m a vision person. I am all about a Vision Statement. And I truly believe Kassy was brought to Garnish through my vision statement for my studio manager. She embodies everything I was looking for in a manager—and then some.

In addition to all of the guest service and management qualities I was seeking, I knew I wanted this person to bring an artistic and creative vibe to the role. Hence why I consider her heaven sent via my vision.

Kassy’s business had just recently launched prior to her joining the team, but it was through the yearly Garnish Vision and Goals exercise that each of my team members completes, that her business found direction.

Quirks Creative

Just about a year and a half ago we sat down to discuss her goals and what it would look like for her to exclusively focus on the aspects of her job that she’s most passionate about—the ones that aligned with her business.

We’ve been steadily moving towards that goal and I am thrilled to be able to stand behind one of our creatives as she takes this next step in her career.

Quirks Creative

I am proud to introduce our new freelance partner, Quirks Creative, who will be continuing to grace our chalkboards with art, managing our social media, updating website content, and contributing to the Garnish blog. Click here to visit her website, or follow along with her social media (Instagram/Facebook).

Fun Fact: We Love Hair Extensions

No seriously, we really LOVE hair extensions. We love being able to help women find solutions for their hair needs whether that’s added length, more volume for the length they already have, or filling in skinny ends that won’t grow.

Hair Extensions can create such a beautiful transformation, and provide an amazing solution for so many hair needs. There are, however, some hair concerns that traditional extensions cannot solve. Over the past decade that Candice has been applying hair extensions she has seen a wide variety of women’s hair needs, and has made it her mission to learn all she can to assist as many women as possible. While we love a beautiful set of extensions, what means the most is being able to actually provide solutions for women who don’t know where else to turn.

This has led us to the commitment to level up the services that we offer here at Garnish. We’re doing this in a couple of different ways. If you’ve never heard of Crown Hair Extensions before, prepare to be amazed.

Crown Hair Extensions are a method of extension that can be applied to areas of hair loss and excessive thinning in ways that traditional extensions cannot. They provide coverage that blends perfectly into the natural hair, including a natural looking part. For women experiencing hair loss, bald spots, and “see-through” hair, Crown Extensions can provide a beautiful solution.

Because Candice believes in not just finding a cosmetic solution to hair needs, but in actually being able to help women solve the underlying issue—IF medically possible—she has also begun training in Trichology.

Trichology comes to Garnish Hair Studio + Extension Bar

Candice along with Donyata, attended a training event in Florida recently, and will continue to partake in ongoing training to become Trichology Specialists. Trichology is the study of hair loss and scalp conditions, and will allow Candice and Donyata to look at your scalp, evaluate its health and what treatments might help, along with determining if you may be a good fit for hair regrowth laser technology.

The technology of the Trichology evaluations will not only help women seeking assistance with hair concerns related to extensions, but also for women with scalp issues such as itching, dandruff, excessive oil production, and more.

We will be able to offer treatments tailored to each person’s needs, increasing their scalp health—which in turn leads to healthier hair. At Garnish we are constantly seeking ways to go above and beyond your average salon in what we can offer for your hair needs and goals. Trichology will allow us to help each person who sits in our chairs in an even more in depth way.

If you have any questions about Trichology, and what that will bring to Garnish, please feel free to reach out and chat with us about it. We would love to talk to you about how we can help your hair—and YOU—feel amazing.

Welcome to the Garnish 2017 TOP FIVE.

The end of the year is inevitably a time of reflection, and this year we wanted to share with you all what YOUR top 5 favorite blog posts of the year were.

Garnish presents…Pink Gloves Spotlight: Today, we honor Lisa

We LOVE that this was your favorite post of the year, because we totally understand—Lisa is one of our favorites, too. In this blog post Lisa shared with us her personal journey with Candice and extensions after having lost her hair through chemotherapy for breast cancer. Lisa allowed us to document her process from her very first color last January all the way through to her crown extension application in August. It was so incredibly special to Candice and all of us to be a part of Lisa’s journey, and we are so happy that you all enjoyed sharing in the journey through this post. If you haven’t yet had a chance to read all about Lisa’s story and extension process with Candice, you can do so here.

A Special Thank You from Garnish Hair Studio Owner, Candice Motley

This just gives us one more opportunity to thank YOU ALL for your support. Considering that our message thanking you was one of your favorites just makes us feel all the more warm fuzzies. We are constantly blown away by the support and encouragement you all provide for us by choosing Garnish as your hair home. Candice wrote this thank you message to express her gratitude for all of you who have followed her throughout the years, those of you who have given us your flexibility with studio changes, and all of you who continue choosing us, and who share your experience with your friends and family, bringing them to us as well. Your presence is a gift, and we are thankful for it. If you’d like to read Candice’s message, you can do so here.

Garnish bids Fare Thee Well to Ray

As beloved as Ray was to all of you, it’s no surprise that his farewell blog post ranked third on the top five posts of the year. It’s never easy to lose a team member who has been there from the beginning, who had such an integral part in the formation of the business, and we definitely felt Ray’s loss. We definitely miss his humor lighting up the studio, but are so thankful for the incredible impact he had in the five years he was with Candice, and on Garnish’s first three years in business. If you would like to read Ray’s farewell post, please visit here.

Garnish class is now in session: Hair Psychology 101

In this blog post we talked all about how acquiring the hair of your dreams can make you feel more self-confident and help you love what you see in the mirror. This message really seemed to resonate with a lot of you, and we GET IT. We are all about helping you truly love your look through your hair because we feel the impact that great hair can have on a person. To read more about the effect beautiful hair can have on how you feel, check out our Hair Psychology 101 blog post here.

Niko of Garnish Hair Studio loves Dirty Hair

This one went way back to the beginning of the year, but you all LOVED Niko’s Hair tip about joining the Dirty Hair Club. In this blog post Niko shared all the reasons why she loves to skip a shampoo and the benefits it can have on your hair. To check out what she had to say, visit her blog post here.

Thank you all for spending the year with us reading our informational articles, product reviews, hair tips, and salon updates. We appreciate all of your continued support, and look forward to sharing even more amazing hair things with you all next year!

Pretty soon the entire world will turn pink, and everyone will be talking about Breast Cancer Awareness. As important as simple awareness may be, the reason October was designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month is so much more than just for brands everywhere to explode with pink merchandise. It’s about more than just “Saving the Tatas.”

It’s about the women who have fought the disease and won, and it’s about the women who have fought the disease and lost. It’s about our mothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, and loved ones—the actual humans experiencing the daily struggle of living with and defeating breast cancer, and the beautiful women who are no longer with us because of this disease.

Awareness is not just about knowing that the disease exists, it’s about understanding the signs and symptoms, the importance of regular screenings, and how you can support someone you know affected by Breast Cancer.

Each year, Garnish supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month through donations. This year we are proud to be sponsoring a survivor who is part of our family, Annette Hammond, Jenell Gilyard, our Graphic Designer’s Aunt. Aunt Annette created a non-profit called Blanketing Families, Inc., and we are so happy we will be able to support Aunt Annette and Blanketing Families, Inc. Blanketing Families Inc. came to be because of a very special blanket gifted to Annette during her chemo therapy. She realized how close she felt to family and friends who couldn’t be there through the sentiment of the custom blanket she received. When she beat Breast Cancer and AML, she knew she had to provide that same feeling of warmth and love to others, so she started Blanketing Families, Inc.

For each $25 donation, we give you a free pink hair extension. Our hope is for our extensions to provide a conversation starter that leads more women to understanding the importance of early detection, along with providing an avenue to raise monetary support for research.

Because we believe that awareness really means knowledge, we will be sharing Breast Cancer Awareness facts on our Instagram and Facebook throughout the month of October. We invite our friends to share these images as well—the spread of information is the real reason behind the spread of pink, after all, isn’t it?

We also invite you into the studio, whether you are a current guest or not, to receive your pink hair extension in exchange for your donation to Blanketing Families Inc.

We would love to team up with other women in our mission to share knowledge and support for those fighting and those who have fought.
